Mental Health Resources

FUMC believes that the example Jesus set for us, allows people to flourish in all aspects of their lives, by enabling us to be what we were created to be: human beings bearing God’s image and reflecting His love into the world. When we do this, we lean into our divine purpose and work with the grain of what it means to be human. One vital but often neglected area of human flourishing is our mental health, which too often gets de-prioritized or ignored entirely out of an unhealthy combination of embarrassment, confusion, and distraction. Our church wants to be part of the solution to modern society's often unhealthy mental state, and we are committed to putting mental health in its rightful place as a key aspect of humanity’s ability to flourish, or as Jesus put it, to live life abundantly.

Grand Central Station

Grand Central Station was grown from a ministry within First Methodist Sherman that is now a separate entity that we partner with to provide food to the hungry. Grand Central Station provides a HUB of support for the underserved in our community. The facility and its army of volunteers provide hot meals, groceries, advocacy, hygiene supplies, laundry facilities, showers, and referrals to other local agencies. Subsidized food from North Texas Food Bank plus donated food, and hygiene products from local retail stores, restaurants, food producers, and others enables our kitchen and pantry to inexpensively serve meals and provide groceries, clothing, and hygiene supplies free of charge. This HUB supports four programs; The Dining Car, The Market Depot, Children’s Express and Tools 4 Schools. Click the button below to access their website.

Family Promise

We support Family Promise by being a host church. Family Promise is a holistic approach to the crisis of family homelessness. Our programs address the range of issues that affect low-income families. These include direct services, educational curricula, prevention programs, and more. To see what Family Promise offers, click the button below to access their website.
